Before kids I could go running whenever I felt like it, heck I could even sneak in a quick run during a lunch break. I could then take my pick of aerobics classes and even stop off for a relaxing swim afterwards if I wanted to. I was fit, healthy and happy.
With kids in tow, looking after my health and fitness became a whole new juggling act. I felt guilty about going to the gym and leaving my child in the crèche, I had limited energy yet I felt flabby and floppy and needed to do something! Being on one income made a gym membership a luxury.
I wanted a place to workout with my girls and not break the bank. This is why I founded the Fit With You company. It’s a fitness group for Mums that will fit with you and your life. The kids come too (although they’re not compulsory)
Life with children is busy but it is not always enough to be able to shed those unwanted kilos that somehow attached themselves to our pre baby bodies. When you exercise you are not only improving your physical health but also your mental health by pumping lots of “happy hormones” about your body.
As mums we are often the ones who teach our children to make positive choices for their health, yet we are neglectful of our own. As you know, “monkey see, monkey do” – it is all very well telling our children to stay fit and healthy but it is far more powerful to show them.
I give my clients input into our sessions and we work at improving cardio fitness, reducing the fat, toning up the saggy bits and strengthening the core. I’m not a big fan of sit ups, I think that if not done correctly they can do more harm than good which is why we rarely do them in the FWY sessions. Instead we use a range of exercises to target the “mummy roll”.
My favourite are leg raises, where you lay on your back with your legs in the air and slowly lower them without letting them hit the ground.
To target the butt and saddle bags we have lots of unusually named exercises such as ‘tick tocks’ ‘butt orchestra’ ‘hip bouncing’ and dirty dogs’.
It’s all great fun and we work hard!
All levels of fitness are catered for and there is a challenge for anyone.
I run day time sessions timed for after school / kindy drop offs and evening bootcamps.
I also have personal training clients and work with sports teams to analyse and improve areas of fitness. I’m excited about our Summer Series of bootcamps starting in November, please check out our Facebook page and feel free to ask any fitness questions there.
